In this article, the second in a series of three, Greville Rumble, Regional Director South East of the O.U. U.K., questions whether the Fordist model can accurately be applied to his own institution. Reviewing models of industrial organisation, particularly in the sphere of car production and office management, Rumble concludes that in terms of deskilling and mass production, it is not at all clear that the O.U. U.K., is Fordist, or indeed, whether distance education necessarily is.
