Gilly Salmon

In this paper Dr. Gilly Salmon, Director of Presentation at the Open University Business School, provides a brief survey of the history, ethos, culture, and teaching approaches of the UK Open University (OU) and its Business School (OUBS). The paper focuses on management students and the OUBS's position in a dynamic and competitive MBA market place. The history of the use of Computer Mediated Conferencing (CMC) in the OUBS, and the role of OUBS tutors, are explored and underpin the importance of the results of an on‐line action research study into the Business School's use of CMC. CMC is a critically important application of Information and Communication Technology for the future of large‐scale distance management education
