Retraction text

We, the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Information Technology for Development, have retracted the following article:

  •  Saibal Ghosh (2018): Biometric identification, financial inclusion and economic growth in India: does mobile penetration matter?, Information Technology for Development, https://doi.org/10.1080/02681102.2018.1540390, Version of Record published online 30th October 2018

The Editor-in-Chief of Information Technology for Development and Taylor & Francis note that the policy of the journal is to consider only original material, and that authors are required to make a warranty to the effect that articles are not under consideration for publication by any other journal. The article was published in good faith. It has since become known that a similar article was submitted to and published in Innovation and Development simultaneously:

  •  Saibal Ghosh (2019): Financial inclusion, economic growth and mobile telephony in India: analysing the nexus, Innovation and Development, https://doi.org/10.1080/2157930X.2019.1570623, Version of Record published online 31st January 2019

In our investigations, a high level of similarity was further discovered between the Information Technology for Development article and the following two articles:

  • Saibal Ghosh (2016) Does mobile telephony spur growth? Evidence from Indian states, Telecommunications Policy, 2016, 40 (10–11), 1020–1031, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.telpol.2016.05.009, Available online 15 June 2016

  • Saibal Ghosh (2016), How important is mobile telephony for economic growth? Evidence from MENA countries, Digital Policy, Regulation and Governance, 2016, 18 (3), 58–79, https://doi.org/10.1108/info-12-2015-0058, Accepted 02 March 2016

As this is contrary to our stated policy and Ethics for Authors, the article is further retracted on these grounds.

We have been informed in our decision-making by our policy on publishing ethics and integrity and the COPE guidelines on retractions.

The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as ‘Retracted.’
