Abstract

Carol Frattali's paper makes it clear that a powerful motivation for developing improved measures of functional communication is the need to satisfjr funders of the service:

Functional assessment has gained popularity in rehabilitative and long-term care in the United States, not as a direct result of its clinical usefulness, but rather as a reaction to cost pressures (p. 67).
