1 Subhash Chandra Bose was a leader of the Indian freedom movement. He took help from the Japanese to set up a rebel Indian National Army with Indian prisoners of war as well as Indian civilians from Singapore and Malaya.

2 Sook Ching was an ethnic cleansing operation carried out against the Chinese population of Singapore during the Japanese occupation of the city. The director of military operations who oversaw this pogrom became a respected politician in post-war Japan.
