Pages 81-87 | Published online: 31 Oct 2011

Abstract

Navicula schefterae sp.nov. is described from collections made along the Antarctic Peninsula. It forms saccate, membranous colonies which rupture as they expand. It is most similar to N. ulvacea and N. subinflata. The tube-forming species Berkeleya rutilans was also found in the collections.
