NAVICULA JAKOVLJEVICII HUST. (BACILLARIOPHYCEAE) MORPHOLOGIE UND TAXONOMISCHE ÜBERLEGUNGEN

Pages 293-301 | Published online: 31 Oct 2011

Abstract

Navicula jakovljevicii Hust. has been found outside the Balkan area for the first time, in the Zuger See, Switzerland. A study of forms both from the Balkan area and from the Zuger See was carried out using light- and scanning electron microscopy. Morphologically they share features of the closely related genera Navicula (sensu stricto) and Rhoikoneis, hence representing an intermediate form. Considerations on the taxonomic position of that species led to the conclusion that a new and better combination cannot be established on the basis of present concepts of genera.
