Abstract
A third species of the genus Protokeelia, the second from the Persian Gulf, is described. The new taxon is distinguished by features of the topography of the valve face and is immediately recognisable from the lines of spinules located in rows. It is recorded from four localities on the east coast of Saudi Arabia. Protokeelia spinifera sp. nov. is compared with P. hottingeri Reimer & Lee and P. bassonii Round and other possible Protokeelia species in the literature under Auricula.
