Abstract

In the Pantocsek Collection, slides with material from tertiary deposits include some cyclotelloid species belonging to the family Thalassiosiraceae. They are distinguished from other genera in the family by a combination of characters, some of them present in either Stephanodiscus, Cyclostephanos, Cyclotella or Pliocaenicus. There are, however, some morphological features which differentiate them from these genera and a new genus Tertiarius Håkansson et Khursevich, has been created. Cyclotella pygmaea Pantocsek and C. transilvanica Pantocsek var. transilvanica and C. transilvanica var. disseminatepunctata Pantocsek are transferred to this new genus.
