Abstract

The first record of Anorthoneis dulcis Hein found in South America is presented here. This is the only species of the genus Anorthoneis Grunow that occurs in freshwater. Specimens were studied from sandy sediments of the fluvial island of Mosqueiro, State of Para, Brazil. The species was examined in LM, SEM and TEM for morphological detailing and for comparison with similar species.
