Editor’s Report, 2014

The manuscript handling figures for International Studies in the Philosophy of Science for 2014 were as follows. We received 31 unsolicited article manuscripts. The editor rejected two of these without seeking further advice, on the grounds that they fell outside the journal’s scope. The editor sent the other 29 manuscripts to referees. We rejected 15 manuscripts in the light of the referees’ comments, and we invited authors to send us a revised manuscript in 14 cases. We have received 10 revised manuscripts so far, and have accepted all for publication.

We also received four article manuscripts making up a thematic symposium, which we accepted for publication after revisions.

Referees have two main responsibilities: to advise the editor on which manuscripts to accept for publication, and to offer criticism and suggestions to help improve manuscripts. In the latter role, referees noticeably raise the quality of almost every article we publish; they also provide a service to the community by commenting on manuscripts that we are unable to accept. Members of our editorial board undertake some of the refereeing: their names are listed on the inside front cover of each issue, in the title pages of each volume of the journal, and on the journal website. The editor, however, approaches other scholars to carry our most of the refereeing. The external referees who worked for us in 2014, other than one referee who requested anonymity, are listed below. We thank all our referees for helping us in this way.

We are additionally grateful to editorial board members for representing the journal in the academic community and for scouting for promising manuscripts.

It is a pleasure to thank the team at Taylor & Francis Ltd. who worked on ISPS in 2014, and especially Atalanta Willcox, Senior Production Editor; Louise Evans, Production Editor; Ruth Glasspool and Lucy Sheach, Managing Editors; Emma Grylls, Publishing Editor; Harriet Canavan, Senior Marketing Executive; and Lauren Harvey, Marketing Coordinator.

Once again, we warmly invite scholars to send ISPS suitable article manuscripts within our scope, which we will be delighted to consider constructively for publication.
