Abstract

This paper is presented in five sections, with appendices, as follows:

(1) Criteria for deciding the adequacy of phonetic and phonological descriptions with relevance to clinical assessment and management are presented.

(2) An outline format for a description which claims such relevance is offered.

(3) Some underlying theoretic considerations are examined.

(4) An example of such a description is given.

(5) An illustration of the use of such a description is given.

The appendices provide examples of relevant data and derived texts: word-elicitation (Text A) and continuous speech (Text B).
