ABSTRACT

A randomized control trial of a group-based behavioral weight management program targeting parent and child health change using a diverse community sample was conducted. Children and parents were randomized to an immediate treatment or waitlist condition and completed pre- and post-intervention measures of parent Body Mass Index (BMI), child BMI z-score, child diet, and child physical activity. Families attending the treatment condition did not show greater improvements in outcomes. Child age and number of treatment sessions attended did not relate to health outcomes.
