Editorial

This issue presents eleven articles on a range of topics in South Asian literary studies. These include a study of vernacular globalectics, travel narratives by Muslim women, the women’s question in Premchand, two essays on Amitav Ghosh, a discussion of a bilingual magazine from 19th century Kerala, an essay on William Jones, and studies of Tagore, Arundhati Roy, queer politics, and Hindutva myth making. Taken together these essays represent the diverse and exciting ongoing scholarship in South Asian literary, film and cultural studies.

As Editor, I often get emails with queries about general issues. I want to address some of the common questions:

  • When do we accept submissions for these general issues? We take them all year round through our submission portal

  • How much time does it take to get a decision on these essays? Current data shows that we provide a first decision about 12 days after submissions and a post-review decision after 107 days.

  • Can the editor review an essay before it is submitted? No, we cannot do that.

  • Is there a fee for publication in this journal? No, there is no fee unless you are looking to have an open access article. Information on open access publication is available under “Author Services” in the journal’s website

  • Are the essays peer reviewed? Yes, our research articles are double blind peer-reviewed, our book reviews and Provocations essays are reviewed by members of the Editorial Team

  • Do you publish interviews? We do occasionally publish interviews but only those that are solicited by the journal’s editors/guest editors. No unsolicited interviews are published.

  • How do I get my book reviewed? Please contact the Book Reviews Editor, Amit R. Baishya [email protected]

  • How can I become a book reviewer? Please reach out to our Book Reviews Editor and send him an email with your brief bio and a writing sample

  • How can I become a peer reviewer for the journal? We are always happy to add scholars to our peer reviewer lists. Please email me at [email protected] expressing your interest and a brief bio that lists your areas of expertise

Besides general issues, we also publish special issues on topics of relevance in our field. Special issues are usually edited by senior scholars in the field and at the invitation of the Editor. You can find our latest calls for papers for special issues on the journal website.

We love reading your work and look forward to your submissions. We receive 200 plus submissions annually and our editorial team works hard to review each submission. My gratitude to this dedicated group of scholars: Robin Field, Amit R. Baishya, John Hawley, Pallavi Rastogi, and Maryse Jayasuriya.
