Ion flotation as a tool for speciation studies selective separation in the system Cr3+/Cr6+

The objective of the present work was to extend the application of ion flotation to the selective separation of same element ions, but existing in different valency states; more generally to suggest foam flotation techniques as useful tools for the study of speciation problems in dilute aqueous solutions. The Cr(VI)/Cr(III) system was first selected; several parameters influencing this separation through ion flotation were studied and good separations were obtained, according to which more than 90% of Cr(VI) was removed, while Cr(III) mainly remained in solution.
