Abstract

The chemiluminescence of the reaction of p‐aminobenzene‐sulfonic acid with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of Co(II) in alkaline buffer media has been examined. The maximum emission wavelength is 445 nm. With reaction conditions selected for the determination of Co(II), the detection limit for Co(II) is 0.01 ng/ml. The log‐log calibration graph for Co(II) is linear from a detection limit of 0.01 ng/ml up to 0.5 μg/ml. The method results in good selectivity and has been satisfactorily applied to determine trace cobalt in human blood serum and water samples.
