With this issue, Aerosol Science and Technology begins a new chapter. Peter McMurry, Professor and, until recently, Head of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, becomes the new Editor-in-Chief. Peter is an international leader in aerosol science whose research spans a wide range of aerosol science and technology. He brings with him a talented team of new Editors whose names are listed below. More information about them can be found on the journal masthead. I cannot imagine passing the leadership of this journal into more capable hands.

The past five and a half years have brought a number of important changes to Aerosol Science and Technology. The most important change was the development of a team of Editors, each of whom assumes full responsibility for each assigned paper. I would like to thank those Editors: Chong Kim, Kikuo Okuyama, Dan Murphy, and, earlier, Robert Phalen, for their substantial contributions to this journal during this time. The journal has also moved from paper manuscripts to electronic submission and processing. This has improved the efficiency of the editorial office, expanded the reach of the journal throughout the world, and improved accuracy in production of the final paper from the submitted manuscript. The journal has also expanded its reach by making its electronic archives freely available one year after initial publication, including, through the recent retrodigitization project, scans of all of the previously published print volumes.

A journal depends on many people. Marcy Fowler has expertly managed the editorial office these five and a half years, working with authors, editors, and reviewers throughout the submission and publication process, especially through the many challenges of getting figures into forms that reproduce well in print and online. With the change in editorship, Pamela McMurry will assume this role, bringing unique skills since she has studied environmental science under the late Sheldon Friedlander and has experience as a freelance technical editor. Authors are, of course, essential to the journal, since they provide the intellectual content on which it depends. Finally, an invisible group contributes immeasurably to the journal. These are the reviewers, whose critical evaluation and extensive editorial suggestions not only help the Editors decide what should be published; they also guide authors through revisions that greatly improve the papers. During my term as Editor-in-Chief, I have come to recognize reviewers as an extremely valuable, crucial resource. I thank them for their labor and insights that have helped this journal grow in stature over the past several years. As Peter McMurry assumes the reigns for the journal, I now rejoin their ranks.
