Outstanding Publication Award

The 2018 Aerosol Science and Technology (AS&T) Outstanding Publication Award recognizes Peng Liu, Paul J. Ziemann, David B. Kittelson, and Peter H. McMurry for their 1995 article titled “Generating Particle Beams of Controlled Dimensions and Divergence: I. Theory of Particle Motion in Aerodynamic Lenses and Nozzle Expansions” (Aerosol Science and Technology 22: 293–313). Along with its companion article, “Generating Particle Beams of Controlled Dimensions and Divergence: II. Experimental Evaluation of Particle Motion in Aerodynamic Lenses and Nozzle Expansions” (Aerosol Science and Technology 22:314–324), the article describes the theory and construction of an apparatus that can generate a collimated and tightly focused particle beam. The invention has been critical for enabling the detection of particle chemical composition via mass spectrometry methods, which have come to define the modern era in the field of aerosol chemistry.

AS&T Outstanding Publication Award criteria

AS&T's Outstanding Publication Award is awarded annually to one article published in AS&T without regard to publication date. The award recognizes articles that have had a significant impact on the field. Nominations should include a single letter and a citation of approximately 100 words. The letter is limited to three pages and may be signed by more than one person. The citation is a succinct summary of the significance of the article, suitable for dissemination with the award announcement. Self-nominations are not permitted.

AS&T's Editor-in-Chief presents the AS&T Outstanding Publication Award at the annual American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) meeting. It consists of a certificate for each coauthor, one plaque to be used at the discretion of the coauthors, and a monetary award of $2000.

Information about the nomination process can be found at: https://www.aaar.org/index2.cfm?section=Awards.

AS&T Outstanding Reviewer Award criteria

Recipients of the AS&T Outstanding Reviewer Award are chosen annually by the Editors of AS&T. The selections are based on both the frequency and quality of the Reviewers' contributions. They are announced by the Editor-in-Chief at the AAAR meeting. The award consists of a certificate for each Reviewer as well as immediate open access, valued at $1500 USD, for any one paper submitted by the Reviewer within 18 months of the award's announcement.
