Outstanding Publication Award

The 2020 Aerosol Science and Technology (AS&T) Outstanding Publication Award recognizes John T. Jayne, Danna C. Leard, Xuefeng Zhang, Paul Davidovits, Kenneth A. Smith, Charles E. Kolb, and Douglas R. Worsnop for their 2000 article titled “Development of an Aerosol Mass Spectrometer for Size and Composition Analysis of Submicron Particles” (Aerosol Science and Technology 33: 49–70).

“Development of an Aerosol Mass Spectrometer for Size and Composition Analysis of Submicron Particles,” by Jayne et al., introduced the world to the Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (AMS). The article thoroughly describes the instrument as well as theoretical predictions and experimental validations of its performance. The AMS has revolutionized the field of aerosol science by providing a quantitative measurement of aerosol particle size-resolved composition. The article, one of the most cited in AS&T history, continues to influence not only atmospheric science but a broad range of science and engineering fields.

AS&T Outstanding Publication Award criteria

AS&T's Outstanding Publication Award is awarded annually to one article published in AS&T without regard to publication date. The award recognizes articles that have had a significant impact on the field. Nominations should include a single letter and a citation of approximately 100 words. The letter is limited to three pages and may be signed by more than one person. The citation is a succinct summary of the significance of the article, suitable for dissemination with the award announcement. Self-nominations are not permitted.

AS&T's Editor-in-Chief presents the AS&T Outstanding Publication Award at the annual American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) meeting. It consists of a certificate for each coauthor, one plaque to be used at the discretion of the coauthors, and a monetary award of $2000.

Information about the nomination process can be found at: https://www.aaar.org/index2.cfm?section=Awards.

Outstanding Reviewer Awards

Aerosol Science and Technology gratefully acknowledges the following recipients of the 2020 AS&T Outstanding Reviewer Award for their exceptional contribution to AS&T's peer review process:

Heejung Jung, University of California, Riverside

William Lindsley, NIOSH, CDC

Reinhard Niessner, Technische Universität München

Christopher Sorensen, Kansas State University

Mark Stolzenburg, MRS Consulting, Minnesota

Xiaoliang Wang, Desert Research Institute, Nevada

Outstanding Reviewer Award criteria

Recipients of the AS&T Outstanding Reviewer Award are chosen annually by the Editors of AS&T. The selections are based on both the frequency and quality of the reviewers’ contributions. They are announced by the Editor-in-Chief at the AAAR meeting. The award consists of a certificate for each reviewer as well as immediate free access, valued at $1500 USD, for any one article submitted by the reviewer within 18 months of the award’s announcement.
