Particle Size Distribution of Airborne Dusts Using a Scanning Electron Microscope

Pages 475-478 | Received 14 Nov 1994, Published online: 13 Jun 2007

Abstract

A scanning electron microscope procedure has been developed to measure the particle size distribution of dusts collected on filter media. The technique is applicable to inspirable dust samples and to individual stages of cascade impactors. Results from monazite dusts (density of 5200 kg m−3) confirm that the manufacturer's specified cut-points for impactor stages are correct for equivalent aerodynamic diameters.
