Abstract
Drawing upon data from a nationwide longitudinal survey, the career paths of a representative sample of NASP members were studied. This descriptive study reviews reasons for entering and exiting the field of school psychology and examines patterns of attrition. The vast majority of survey respondents reported being satisfied with their career choice, and overall attrition rates—for reasons other than retirement—were quite low. Practitioners with 6 to 10 years of experience in school psychology were most likely to leave the profession for reasons of career advancement.
