Preface
Dear Colleagues,
The 15th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP), Communicating Science in an Era of Innovation and Change, took place 15–17 April 2019. This year’s meeting theme addressed the evolving publications landscape and explored how publication professionals can adapt and innovate to more effectively communicate medical and scientific information to healthcare decision makers and patients.
A unique aspect of the 15th Annual Meeting was the extent to which the content was member driven. We received and accepted the highest ever number of session proposals, resulting in about a third to a half of each day’s programming originating from ISMPP members. Member research remained a key component as well, with two oral presentations, 50 posters and four guided poster tours integrated throughout the meeting. Poster award winners will also have an opportunity to showcase their work further by presenting at our Annual Meeting Highlights webinar.
This year’s meeting also saw a record number of abstract submissions – sixty-nine in total. Research topics reflected concepts supporting this year’s meeting theme including innovation, effective communication and the changing medical publishing landscape. Lay summaries, open access, patient involvement in publications, ethics/standards, and digital and enhanced media options were some popular areas of focus. The continued commitment of ISMPP members to growing the body of literature around concepts important to our profession remains critical to improving the overall quality of scientific exchange.
This supplement represents our eleventh collaboration with Current Medical Research & Opinion (CMRO) and includes abstracts presented either as oral or poster presentations during the 15th Annual Meeting of ISMPP and the 2019 European Meeting of ISMPP, Scientific Communications in a Fast-Paced World: Fighting Fit for the Future, held 22–23 January, London, UK.
