The parasites of man in New Zealand: A review

Pages 59-67 | Received 20 Nov 1975, Published online: 30 Mar 2010

In a review based on the literature, some 42 species of parasites of man in New Zealand are listed and discussed with reference to their medical importance, the influences of population movements, and the presence of domestic animals. Few parasites recorded are of great medical significance. Probably the greatest single influence on human parasitology in New Zealand is the presence of large numbers of domestic animals.
