Abstract
The brackish-water serpulid polychaete Ficopomatus enigmaticus (Fauvel) is recorded from Hawke Bay, New Zealand (c. 39°30′S, 176°52′E), where it had established a colony causing fouling problems at a flood protection pumping station. Hitherto this introduced species had been known only from northernmost New Zealand <37°S). The species produces dense aggregations of calcareous tubes, and if it spreads further in New Zealand it could cause additional fouling and coastal engineering problems.
