An evaluation of the peptic digestion technique (Herlich 1956) for the post-mortem recovery of abomasal nematodes from sheep

Abstract

To assess the value of the peptic digestion technique (Herlich 1956) for the post-mortem recovery of abomasal nematodes of sheep worm count data from 557 ovine abomasa are presented. The results suggest that providing the abomasa are thoroughly washed beforehand, peptic digestion of the mucosa is unlikely to yield additional diagnostic information.
