Abstract

Studies of buried legume seed populations in temperate grassland are reviewed, including the origin and dissemination of buried seeds, techniques of extraction from soil samples, and quantities of seeds found in pasture soils, with emphasis on New Zealand. The effects of management practices on levels of buried legume seeds are discussed and the problem of buried seeds in legume seed production crops is considered with reference to current seed certification rules.
