15th Workshop on Progress in Trace Metal Speciation for Environmental Analytical Chemistry

The 15th Workshop on Progress in Trace Metal Speciation for Environmental Analytical Chemistry will take place between 4-7th September 2016 in Gdańsk, Poland, organized by the International Association of Environmental Analytical Chemistry in cooperation with Gdańsk University of Technology, Polish Chemical Society and the Committee on Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The sessions proposed address topical issues:

  • Elemental speciation in soil and plant interaction.

  • Elemental speciation methods of colloids and nano-particles.

  • Speciation of metal(loid)s in oceanography and freshwaters.

  • Speciation analysis in biological tissues and body fluids.

  • Speciation analysis in farm to fork and in legislation.

  • Speciation analysis in petroleum chemistry.

  • Element-specific measurements, down to ultra-trace levels in all sample types.

  • Remediation technologies.

  • Control strategies for heavy metal emissions and deposition.

  • QC/QA, reference materials, spectroscopic standards and chemometric data handling.

During the conference the following plenary lectures will be presented:

  • prof. Pilar Bermejo Barrera, University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain

  • dr Alex von Bohlen, Leibniz, Institut für Analytische, Germany “Speciation using X-ray methods – Possibilities and limitations”

  • prof. Ewa Bulska, University of Warsaw, Poland “On the use of non-routine approaches towards understating chemical speciation in plants”

  • prof. Bogusław Buszewski, Nicolaus Copernicus University, Poland “Development of new materials for heavy metal removal from water and soil environment”

  • prof. Jörg Feldmann, University of Aberdeen, UK “Arsenic speciation in mammalian tissues becomes more complex than ever”

  • dr Joerg Hippler, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany

  • prof. Eva Krupp, University of Aberdeen, UK “Mercury toxicity in marine animals – accumulation and detoxification of Hg and MeHg”

  • prof. Nicola Pirrone, CNR - Institute of Atmospheric Pollution Research, Italy “The strategic importance of having robust and innovative methods and technologies for environmental observations to support the implementation of policy”

  • prof. Joanna Szpunar, prof. Ryszard Łobiński, CNRS, France “Electrospray MS (r)evolution in speciation analysis”

Gdańsk is a very special location where the reshaping of contemporary Europe started in 1980. This famous marine, cultural and academic centre, situated on the Baltic Coast, still remains open to new ideas and innovations. It is also a seat of many state institutions and an important economic centre.
