ABSTRACT
We present a simple method for the determination of Sn2+ concentration using stannous-synthesised AgNPs as sensing probe at room temperature. The average particle size of stannous-synthesised AgNPs obtained from TEM analysis was about 14 nm with a symmetrical absorption band at 405 nm. The detection method was based on the formation of stable AgNPs using Sn2+ ion as reducing agent and trisodium citrate to maintain constant ionic strength at room temperature. It was observed that the variation of Sn2+ concentration showed linear function with the absorbance of AgNPs. The sensing characteristics of the AgNPs were evaluated for in-situ determination of Sn2+ ion. The determination of Sn2+ ion concentration revealed limit of detection (LOD) of 0.036 _ 0.040 μM. The obtained results of Sn2+ determination showed good recoveries in the range of 89% to 111%.
