ABSTRACT

Research on the use of Biofloc Technology (BFT) in Flood & Drain (F&D) Aquaponic Systems has been carried out, to improve water quality parameters (pH, temperature, DO, COD, and BOD. In this system used Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and Samhong Mustard (Brassica juncea L). This system consists of Fish Pond Tank (FPT), Mechanical Filter Tank (MFT), Biological Filter Tank (BFT), Storage Tank (ST), and Hydroponic Plant Circuits (HPC), and supported by a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) and aeration to supply oxygen. Based on research conducted, obtained pH (7.7–8.7), temperature (25–30)°C, DO (5.5–7.7)mg/L, COD (9.638–25.9493)mg/L, BOD (0.4816–4.6408)mg/L. The results of this study were compared with Indonesian Government Regulations No.82 of 2001) and compromised water quality (Sommerville et al., 2014; Sallenave, 2016; Anonymous 2014). The results were pH, temperature, DO, COD, and BOD did not exceed the quality standard limits. Optimal water quality in this BFT system greatly supports the growth and survival of fish, plants, and bacteria, so the application of biofloc in an F&D aquaponic system needs to be done.
