ABSTRACT

In this study, toxicity of zeolitic metal organic framework-8 nanoparticles on the growth of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus at concentrations of 5–2500 mg/L was assessed. The data were analysed using the Probit analysis and the values of no observed effect concentration (NOEC), lethal concentration-50 (LC50) and 100% bacterial growth inhibition were determined. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were quantified by micro-dilution method. The 24-h LC50 was 435.24, 327.08 and 76.54 mg/L and NOEC was 147.59, 103.851 and 25.662 mg/L for E. coli, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus, respectively. The 100% growth inhibitory as observed at 2009.093, 1657.094 and 359.833 mg/L, for E. coli, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus, respectively. The lowest MIC and MBC were 12.98 and 26.04 mg/L for S. aureus. This study showed that S. aureus was the suitable indicator due to its high sensitivity to zeolitic metal organic framework-8.
