The theme of this Special Issue is to bring together a collection of papers that reflect current knowledge, research, practice, and education initiatives in the cancer field with a particular focus on understandings of “the social” for all those affected by cancer, including individuals, families, and communities, and the health systems with which they interact. A unique social work lens will make a significant contribution to understandings of the cancer experience and the advancement of knowledge in the field.
Submissions are invited on empirical studies, policy perspectives, and curriculum initiatives in social work education drawing on a range of research methods, epistemology, and theory.
Possible topics include:
evidence-informed social work practice and cancer
theoretical approaches and frameworks for practice
social determinants and health inequalities perspectives
social and cultural dimensions of prevention
discursive analysis of dominant cancer narratives and paradigms
Indigenous and non-western perspectives
intersectionality, gender, LGBTI issues, and cancer
rural, regional, and population-based inquiry
survivorship, mortality, grief, bereavement
health literacy of those affected by cancer
innovations in practice and evaluation
curriculum initiatives in social work education.
