A Special Issue on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Work is being planned for publication in 2023. The theme will be “Our voices: Being seen and heard”, and details will be published in upcoming issues. The Journal's policy is that all papers submitted by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors, or papers discussing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander matters, should be reviewed by at least one Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reviewer.
We expect that this theme will attract many submissions and to meet this additional demand we are seeking Expressions of Interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers, teachers, academics, and social workers who may wish to join the Journal's Panel of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reviewers.
The Review Process:
Each paper submitted to Australian Social Work is reviewed by two reviewers. Both reviewers and authors are anonymised so that each party is unaware of who the authors or reviewers are.
Reviewers are provided with guidelines for their review. The feedback they provide is considered by the Journal's Editors, who then make a decision regarding the paper's readiness for acceptance for publication in the Journal.
Why be a Reviewer?
Reviewers are essential to maintaining the quality, status and knowledge of a profession
Reviewing a paper is an avenue to ensure the cultural integrity and authenticity of papers making an important contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge
Reviewers gain up to date knowledge on emerging practice and research in their sector/field
Reviewing a paper enhances and develops reading, writing, editing and critical analysis skills
Australian Social Work is a key refereed international Australian social work journal with an increasing impact factor (currently 1.9)
Acknowledgement of Reviews:
Journal reviewers do not receive payment for completing reviews, but their work can be acknowledged for academic recognition purposes in Publons: https://publons.com/about/home/
However in appreciation of completing journal reviews, the Editor and Associate Editors will be pleased to provide mentoring and support if requested to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reviewers who may wish to submit a paper to the journal during a 12-month period.
