Outstanding editors

As we start a New year, on behalf of the editorial team, I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the following Editors, for their outstanding and continued support to Archives of Phytopathology and Plant Protection journal. By accepting this additional work into their already busy schedules, and lending us their expertise, they ensure ongoing quality and continued success of the Journal.

Their expertise and knowledge are recognized and valued. I look forward to continued collaboration in the coming years.

Dr. Simon Francis Shamoun is a Senior Research Scientist with Canadian Forest Service, Pacific Forestry Centre and an Adjunct Professor with Thompson Rivers University. Since 1990, he has led several research projects, including development, registration, and commercialization of Canada’s first biological control agent “Chontrol” and now re-named “LALCIDE CHONDRO™” based on Chondrostereum purpureum- isolate PFC2139. In addition, he developed biocontrol agents for management of weedy Rubus & salal and dwarf mistletoes. The scope of Dr. Shamoun’s research program has steadily widened since mid-2000s. He has expanded his area of research and influence into “Forest Invasive Alien Pathogens and Phytosanitary issues”. He initiated and led a CFIA and US Forest Service funded project on the invasive alien pathogen- Phytophthora ramorum – causal agent of Sudden Oak Death (SOD) disease. Furthermore, Dr. Shamoun developed a new project on “Development of molecular diagnostic assays for detection and identification of North American and Eurasian root and butt rot pathogen Heterobasidion species complex to address phytosanitary issues and disease management in conifer forests. He published more than 80 refereed journal articles,70 conference proceedings and workshops, 15 review and book chapters, 5 US and Canadian patents, major technology transfer to a private sector and innovation documents. Further recognition of his stature in the scientific community, he was selected Coordinator of a national “BioControl Network”- Network of Centers of Excellence”- NSERC, Coordinator for IUFRO- Dwarf Mistletoes Work Group- 7.02.11, member of the executive committees of national & international professional societies (e.g., Canadian Phytopathological Society and American Phytopathological Society). Dr. Shamoun continues to be very active as a mentor to a large group of professionals including CFS research technicians, graduate students, five post-doctoral fellows, and visiting scientists from abroad. He is currently serving as Senior and Associate Editor for eight national and international refereed journals including Archives of Phytopathology and Plant Protection journal.

Dr. Sedighe Azimi was born in Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran. She researched plant pathology-mycology during her M.Sc. at the Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz and plant nematology during her Ph.D. at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran. She is an Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology-Nematology at the Plant Protection Department of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, Iran, from 2005 to the present.

She teaches Phytopathology, Important diseases of fruit crops, Diseases of ornamental and vegetable plants, Methods and equipment in phytopathology research, Principles of nematology and plant-parasitic nematodes, Genetics of pathogenicity in plant-parasitic nematodes, Nematode systematics and molecular phylogeny.

Her research fields are the study of biodiversity and taxonomy of plant-parasitic nematode genera, molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis of species and populations, the study of biology and pathogenicity of nematodes to plants, and their control.

Dr. Azimi is an editorial board member and reviewer of several National and International journals such as Plant Protection, Archives of Phytopathology and Plant Protection, Journal of Crop Protection, and Journal of Nematology.

Prof Kamal A. M Abo-Elyousr received his PhD from the University of Assiut, Egypt and Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI) institute Darmstadt, Germany in 2005.

He is currently a Professor at the University of Assiut, Egypt and King Abdualziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

He has 25 years of experiences in plant Pathology and published over 75 research articles in the field of phytopathology with an interest in Biological control of plant diseases. Dr. Abo-Elyousr is also Editor-In-Chief of Journal of Phytopathology and Pest Management, Associate editor of Plant Diseases and Protection (Springer) and Senior Editor of Australasian Journal of Plant Pathology.
