KNOWLEDGE OF AGING AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN SOUTH-EASTERN NIGERIA

Pages 481-489 | Published online: 17 Aug 2010

Abstract

The study reported in this paper attempted to determine what secondary school students in Nigeria know about the elderly. One hundred twenty students completed a questionnaire about aging. The mean age of the respondents was 15 years. The questionnaire was a modification of CitationPalmore's (1977) Facts on Aging Quiz. The results revealed that the youths possess aging stereotypes. The implications of the findings are discussed and further areas of research suggested.
