SENIOR CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS IN A UNIVERSITY DAY‐CARE CENTER

Abstract

This study reports the effects of an intergenerational program that was conducted to involve senior citizen volunteers with preschool children in a university day‐care setting. The primary emphases of the project were to enhance the children's reading readiness and to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between seniors and children. This pilot study revealed overall positive effects for senior citizens, children, parents, and teachers in the center.
