Metal Plating of Polymeric Surfaces

I. INTRODUCTION

Although metallizing of nonconductive surfaces dates from the old Egyptian civilization from which archaeological examples of metallized wood and terra cotta have been found [1], the fastest development of plating on plastics has come within the last ten years [2]. Several developments have emerged in polymer technology, in the processing of plastics, and most important, in the chemical technology of polymer treatments and the electroless plating process.
