The Epoxy Chloropropane Grafted Carbon Fiber on the Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Poly(Methyl Methacrylate) Composite

Abstract

Epoxy chloropropane (ECP) grafting modification method was used for the surface treatment of Carbon fiber to improve the interfacial adhesion of the Carbon fiber-reinforced Poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) composite. The interfacial shear strength between PMMA and Carbon fiber was analyzed by measuring short beam strength of composite. The friction and wear properties were also comparatively studied using ring-block tribomachine. Results showed that ECP grafting modification of Carbon fiber improved the interfacial adhesion than the untreated one. Thus both the mechanical and tribological properties of ECP treated CF/PMMA increased.
