Abstract
In this work, fumed silica treated with two kinds of orgnosilanes, γ-Aminpropyltriethoxysilane(KH550) and 3-Trimethoxysilylpropyldimethyloctadecyl ammonium Chloride(AEM5700), were synthesized. Then a series of silica/epoxy composites were prepared by casting molding. The effects of silica dispersion and loading on the mechanical properties were discussed. Results showed that compared with AEM 5700 modified silica/epoxy, tensile properties of KH550 modified silica/epoxy composites was significantly increased. Both composites reached their maximum mechanical properties at 3% silica loading. SEM indicates compared with neat silica/epoxy composites, both orgnosilanes modified silica/epoxy dispersed more evenly in EP matrix.
