Biological Activity of the Nanostructure Poly(Ester-Imide)s Containing a Tyrosine-Based Diol: Wheat Seedling Growth and Fungal Biodegradation

Abstract

A series of biodegradable poly(ester-imide)s (PEIs) were synthesized by the reaction of several amino acid based-diacids with N,N -(3,3,4,4-benzophenonetetracarboxylic)-3,3,4,4-diimido-bis-(L-tyrosine methyl ester) as the synthesized diol. The nanostructure PEIs were obtained in good yields, moderate inherent viscosity and useful level of thermal stability. The monomers and prepared polymers were buried under the soil to study the sensitivities of the monomers and the obtained polymers to microbial degradation. Normal wheat seedling growth also happened in the vials containing the obtained polymers. It could be concluded that the synthesized molecules are biologically active and they are nontoxic to ecosystems and natural environments.
