Abstract
The author creates a sample RDA (Resource Description and Access) workflow for serials cataloging using the online RDA Toolkit. The serials workflow presented here is based on the two JSC sample workflows, Simple Book and Transcription, which were issued with the final draft of RDA in November 2008 for constituency review, and also on chapter 12 of second edition of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules.
The author acknowledges the Joint Steering Committee's collective intellectual responsibility for the creation of the instructions included in this article as well as for the creation of the sample workflow Simple Book on which the current serials workflow is based. She also acknowledges the American Library Association, the Canadian Library Association, and CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) as the copyright holders of RDA from which, along with JSC's sample workflow, most of the current text is extracted. In addition, she thanks Troy Linker and Nanette Naught and their team, the talented developers of the online RDA Toolkit, for the opportunity to test, along with many others, the beta version of it.
Resource Description and Access and RDA Toolkit used by permission of the RDA Co-Publishers ©2010—American Library Association, Canadian Library Association, and CILIP: Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.
The author wishes Jim Cole all the best upon his retirement as editor of The Serials Librarian and as Professor and Cataloger at Iowa State University.
