A comparison of readability levels of textbooks in public speaking and interpersonal communication

This article reports on the evaluation of the readability levels of 16 contemporary public speaking textbooks and 7 skills‐oriented interpersonal communication textbooks. Determining the readability of textbooks allows teachers to select books that more appropriately challenge the functional reading skills of their students. Suggestions for using readability data in the process of textbook selection are discussed.
