Pages 225-243 | Received 01 Mar 1988, Accepted 30 Jun 1988, Published online: 31 Aug 2010

Abstract

This paper examines the nature, contribution, and impact of the exploitation of forest resources on a rural food farming economy in Ghana. Hunting and gathering of food resources is shown to be an adaptive response to seasonal food supply cycles in the local community of Ayirebi, near Akyem Oda in southeastern Ghana. The implications of this study for national development planning are explored.
