Abstract
A rapid and accurate method for the determination of silica in magnesite and other calcareous materials has been described. The method is based on the quantitative precipitation of silica as K2 SiF6 from an acidic solution, hydrolysis of the precipitate after neutralising the free acid with NaOH in cold and titration of the liberated HF with a standard NaOH solution. Standard deviation of the results is found to be 0.0296% only. Several determinations can be completed within 4 hours.
