Abstract

Montmorillonite, a smectite group clay mineral having 2:1 type of layer structure, possesses different types of structural disorders which have been determined in the present investigation using the Fourier initial slope method and the variance analysis of the X-ray line profiles. The effect of structural changes during dehydration has been studied by heating the samples at several temperatures.
