Abstract
A sedimentation study of suspensions of nano kaolinite in aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as well as in water has been conducted. The results demonstrate that PVA can be used to control the stability of nano clay suspension with respect to sedimentation. The adsorption of PVA lowers the viscosity of system resulting in an increase of solid loading for the same viscosity level. The results indicate that solid volume fraction, polymer concentration, and polymer molecular weight can be adjusted to get desired rheological behaviour and sedimentation stability.
