Topographical and Urban Influences on the Mesoclimate of Shallow Valleys in Johannesburg

Abstract

Previous investigations within the shallow valleys east of Johannesburg revealed the presence of a number of anomalies in the mesometeorological regime. These were thought to be related to the juxtaposition of urban and topographically-induced circulation systems. Against the background of a more detailed specification of the mesoclimatology of the area, the possible influence of topography and the urban area on local climate is examined further.
