Abstract
High effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) from communication satellites is obtainable now. This has opened up a new era in satellite communication whereby the small ground terminals, can be quickly installed and dismantled. It would find extensive use in defence and other applications for communication between a number of widely separated users, which may be located in difficult terrains and where traffic requirements are very small like few teletype, a voice channel or so. The paper discusses various multiple-access techniques which can be used in such a network to go with an Indian Domestic Satellite and discusses their relative merits. Various design aspects of a small ground terminal have also been discussed briefly.
