Abstract

The design details of a timing system for synchronizing and controlling the operation of various units of the gyrowave-interaction experiment for the study of the lower ionosphere is reported. It provides the pulse trains used to trigger the transmitters and other associated receiving units and time markers for accurate measurement of time delays.

It consists of a crystal controlled 100 KHz oscillator, the shaped output of which is fed to a chain of frequency dividers. The output pulses from these dividers are mixed suitably to give two separate time scales, viz. the slow and the fast calibration markers. These are found to be jitterfree and stable over long periods of operation.
