Comparison of Hartley and Fourier Transforms in Harmonic Modelling of Five-Limb Core Transformer Inrush Current

ABSTRACT

It is well known that the magnitude of transformer inrush current depends on several factors such as transformer construction and the angle of the applied voltage at the time of energization. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed to compute inrush current in both of time and frequency domains taking into consideration the significance of formulas derived based on magnetic circuit of five-limb transformer. Electric circuit nonlinear mathematical equations are applied to solve inrush problem based on iteration via MATLAB code. The comparison of the Harmonic domain simulation results obtained from Hartley transform with that of Fourier transform proves the capability of Hartley transform to accurately assess inrush current requiring less number of computations.
