ABSTRACT

Maintenance scheduling (MS) of vehicles is related to uncertainties due to different aspects such as vehicle movement over different terrains, varying loads, fuel efficiency, etc. The fuzzy approach efficiently takes into account such uncertainties to arrive at a reasonable decision. The MS of vehicles is one of such domain of engineering applications. It is dependent on parameters having uncertainties like past running hours, operating condition of the vehicle, fuel consumption rate. The vehicle maintenance scheduling (VMS) is used to assess the condition of vehicle from preventive maintenance prospective of the vehicle so as to enhance the ability of proactive failure situation identification. The stochastic nature of MS has been taken into account by using Monte Carlo simulation, etc. The case example corroborates the efficiency of the proposed fuzzy approach for dealings with VMS for pragmatic applications taking uncertainties into account.
